Cross Country Interview with JFK cross country coach, Mr.Weidele.

Interviewer- What exactly is cross country, and what do you do in it?

Mr.Weidele- Well, cross country is a running sport, now other than track, track is on the actual field, in cross country you run all over, it could be in the park, on the grass, it could be on ground. It’s pretty much what it sounds like. Cross- Country is running across places like the terrain in the township, and you run for long distances unlike track where it’s usually short distance races but in cross country we run for long distance races like 3 miles. In high school, you will run 3 miles in middle school you run 1.5 miles.

Interviewer- So, can middle schoolers can join?

Mr.Weidele- Yes, that is correct, middle school has their own team for cross country and I believe they can join in that in April. In the High school it is in September, October, and November.

Interviewer- Who teaches the middle school team?

Mr.Weidele- I believe last year it was Mr.Canto and Mr.Caruso. I don’t know if you are going to get them this year, you’ll see when you join what we do and what it is all about.

Interviewer- Do you need any forms to join?

Mr.Weidele- Yes, you need a physical check up form.

Interviewer-What do you do during the winter, or is there no cross-country.

Mr.Weidele- Well up at JFK they have winter track with Mr.Harriot here at IMS. He is one of the coaches. Most of the kids that do cross country are in the track program.

Interviewer- Do you coach any other sports?

Mr.Weidele- I coached the middle school track team a year ago, and I’m an assistant track coach at JFK in the spring.

Interviewer- Would you like to say anything to the people planning to join?

Mr.Weidele- I would say start running before the season begins, try to get a half mile, because it is going to be tough. It is a really tough sport to get into.

Interviewer- Thank you
