Interview with Safia Ansari, Lead of Drama Club

Hi everyone, it’s Aairah back again, reporting for Panther Press. Today with me I have Safia Ansari, who if you didn’t know, is the lead character for this year’s school play.

Aairah: Hi Safia! Today, I’m going to ask you some questions about Drama Club.

Safia: Sure! Let’s get started.

Aairah: So, Safia, what basically is this year’s play about?

Safia: Basically, our play’s name is “The Internet is Distract- Oh Look, A Kitten!” It’s about a girl who has a project she needs to get done, but she procrastinates and puts it off till the last minutes, and goes on the internet and distracts herself. Then, she realizes that she has to finish her project, and realizes that homework comes before the internet.

Aairah: Wow, that’s a nice plot! So, when do you guys have your rehearsals?

Safia: Actually, we have our rehearsals for the play every Thursday, after school, with Mr. Tamashausky, Mrs. Albers, and the whole cast of the play.

Aairah: Nice! Safia, for how long have you had an experience with acting?

Safia: I actually was one of the leads in the play last year, and I used to go to this acting camp on every Saturday when I was 7-10 years old. When I was 8 years old, in this play for my camp, I was the lead.

Aairah: Oh, ok! Which character that you have played do you feel like you match up with the most?

Safia: I was Snow White last year, and I really felt the feel of the character, and I was super excited. It was like me and Snow White were twins, and I enjoyed the experience a lot.

Aairah: That’s cool! When you were younger, did you dislike acting? How did you grow to enjoy it?

Safia: When I was 7 years old, all the kids in my class were talking about this theater camp, and I thought that if kids in my class were going to go, it would be fun. So, I basically asked my mom to go to the camp. When I first went to the camp, I thought I didn’t belong there, but as I soon started going along and understanding acting, I started enjoying it a lot, and now, here I am!

Aairah: Cool! So Safia, what is the routine for your rehearsals?

Safia: So, first thing when we come in, Mr. T and Mrs. Albers take attendance. Then, we listen to the announcements that Mr. T and Mrs. Albers tell us, and then we start practicing our scripts. Mr. T or Mrs. Albers will watch us and let us know ways to improve our acting and more tips to better enhance the play!

Aairah: Wow, that’s neat! How is Micah’s behavior? What kind of character is she?

Safia: Well, Micah is a modern-day character, like us students. So she basically has the same type of clothing that we wear, she’s your typical modern-day student.

Aairah: That’s good to hear! So, Safia, do you have plans for acting in the future?

Safia: I plan to do more acting during my high school years and I want to exceed more. I hope in the future that I’ll be better at acting and have a career which involves acting!

Aairah: Well, I hope to see you in more plays! Last question- what advice do you have to any fellow students who want to try out for Drama Club next year?

Safia: Don’t be nervous, because at the end, everyone is going to have to audition anyways and you don’t have to be shy. Just take deep breaths, be calm, and don’t stress, because that’s just going to make you feel much worse. And remember to have FUN, because this is all about fun and enjoying yourself. Acting isn’t a burden- it’s a way to enjoy yourself and have passion. So, if you remember all that, you’ll be good to go!

Aairah: Thanks for the advice Safia! It was wonderful talking to you today and I’m really excited to see you in the play!

Safia: No problem! Thank you for having me!

So folks, this was my interview with Safia, and I hope it pumped you up for watching the play! Be sure to try out for the play if you’d like to and follow Safia’s advice! Make sure to tune in to Panther Press as often as you can, and have A GREAT DAY!!!!!
